An National Colour Scheme and Historic Logo

The fresh livery incorporates a patriotic colour scheme to echo the Union Flag and will be applied on GBR trains, at stations, and across its digital platforms.

Notably, the symbol is the well-known twin-arrow symbol currently used by National Rail and originally created in the 1960s for the former state operator.

The Implementation Strategy

The phased introduction of the branding, which was developed internally, is set to happen in phases.

Commuters are expected to begin seeing the freshly-liveried trains across the national network from spring next year.

Throughout the month of December, the branding will be showcased at prominent stations, such as Leeds City.

The Journey to Nationalisation

The proposed law, which will pave the way the establishment of GBR, is currently progressing through the legislative process.

The government has argued it is taking control of the railways so the service is "owned by the passengers, operating for the public, not for private shareholders."

The new body will consolidate the operation of train services and tracks and signals under a single organisation.

The department has claimed it will combine 17 separate bodies and "reduce the notorious bureaucracy and accountability gap that has long affected the railways."

Digital Services and Current Public Control

The introduction of GBR will also feature a new app, which will let customers to check schedules and reserve journeys free from booking fees.

Passengers with disabilities passengers will also be able to use the app to request assistance.

Multiple train companies had already been taken into public control under the previous administration, such as TPE.

There are now seven operating companies now in public hands, accounting for about a one-third of journeys.

In the last twelve months, c2c have been nationalised, with further franchises likely to follow in 2026.

Ministerial and Sector Response

"This is more than a paint job," commented the relevant minister. It symbolises "a fresh start, leaving behind the problems of the past and focused entirely on offering a proper service for the public."

Industry figures have welcomed the focus to bettering the passenger experience.

"We will carry on to collaborate with relevant bodies to ensure a seamless handover to GBR," a representative noted.
