The former Liverpool manager states rejoining to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that returning someday remains an option. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-year spell which brought continental glory and the Premier League crown in 30 years, now holds roles overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and providing guidance for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the league title under Arne Slot, but many fans who revere Klopp would welcome the possibility that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he told Steven Bartlett: “I said I will never coach any other side within the country. So that means in case it's my former club...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, which suggests the choice could be mine later on, who knows. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on the specific conditions must arise to draw him back to management, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing in the rain for lengthy sessions; I don’t miss going to press conferences four times, three times a week or constant media duties weekly.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the team talking freely, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games thus frequently positive atmosphere in the building. Remaining with me is the captain's chuckle in my ear as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, crediting him due to the changes which secured the championship in the previous season. Liverpool have lost four in a row in all competitions post heavy investment, but he rubbished the notion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. A remarkable prospect. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of Jota, a player he signed during his tenure, and the effect for the team. The forward lost his life in a vehicle collision together with his sibling in July.
“How do you replace such an individual? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, his personality mattered. I can’t imagine the dressing room without him in it. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. A profound tragedy for the entire squad as well. No one within the club might employ it as an excuse but it is the situation. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Handling this on a personal level is not easy. Impossible.”
