Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his position after a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the club's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented known failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a phase such as this with results this poor.”
He finished, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And until it is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to where it needs to be, show everyone again what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
