Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
