Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing attack against it by the US and Israel.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck locations associated with the the regime, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the government.

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," it added.

The statement noted missile fragments landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
