Rob Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the early candidates under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Pereira was dismissed on the weekend after the squad's ten-game without a victory start to the Premier League campaign.
And both candidates - each of whom have historic links to the team - are among the names to be evaluated by the club leadership.
The manager is currently at another club, which would create a possible obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.
However the former Luton Town manager - who made more than 100 of games for the club during his playing career - is said to be a leading candidate for the position.
The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the Wolves directors as they begin the process of appointing a fresh manager.
O'Neil is additionally emerging as a surprise contender, even though he would be a shock choice considering he was sacked by Wolves in December last year.
The former West Ham United midfielder is currently unemployed meaning Wolves would not need to pay any compensation.
