An esteemed Russian army officer has been killed following an explosion in Moscow, according to an investigative body.

The incident happened on Monday morning when an explosive device concealed beneath a vehicle exploded, resulting in the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.

Sarvarov served as the head of the armed forces' department for training operations.

The committee indicated that one line of inquiry points to the possible involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. At this time, Ukraine has remained silent.
